BioShock 4 builds on next-generation technology: Cloud Chamber has moved the game to Unreal Engine 5, according to vacancies

There is new information related to the next part of the first-person shooter series BioShock

Judging by the new list of vacancies opened by the studio-developer of the project Cloud chamber, development of BioShock 4, apparently, switched to the engine Unreal Engine 5… This is clearly stated in the announcement for the position of senior gameplay programmer. According to the task description, the future specialist will work in Unreal Engine 5 to adapt existing systems and create new technologies in order to fulfill the technical needs and creative goals of the project

Previous BioShocks were also created on the Unreal Engine, however, in the case of the fourth part, it was originally reported about the use of Unreal Engine 4. It seems that during the development the project managed to migrate to a new iteration of the engine.

UE5 was first introduced in May last year, and the engine was released in Early Access this week. The new technology is already being used in a number of upcoming projects, including Senua’s Saga: Hellblade IIas well as new games from The coalition and inXile Entertainment

Development of BioShock 4 was officially confirmed in 2019, but details about the game are scarce. If you believe all the same vacancies, the project will offer a story with an emphasis on characters, an open world and urban crowd system, role-playing elements, as well as a deep dialogue system and side quests

Series Creator Ken Levin does not participate in the project, but the team includes people who worked with the game designer on previous parts of BioShock, including the creative director of the game Hogi de la Planta, who acted as the artist of the first and second BioShock, as well as the art director Scott Sinclair, who worked in the same position on BioShock and BioShock: Infinite.
