“2020 has definitely not sped up the development process for Psychonauts 2, but for the most part everything that is needed is in our game. The fact that I can now say about working on the end credits clearly shows where we are at. For us, this means that we are nearing completion of the development of the game. We are moving on to the stage of polishing what is already in the game, “- explained Shafer.

Many fans are wondering what Double fine will be engaged after the release of Psychonauts 2, given that the studio is now owned by Microsoft. Some hope that the team will be offered to start creating projects on the currently inactive IP platform holders, such as Banjo-Kazooie or Conker’s Bad Fur Day… However, according to Schafer, his team is not interested in this:

“This is quite an interesting idea, but I believe that using Double Fine for this will not be effective. The essence of our work is to come up with something new and unusual. Some people have thought that we should create a game based on Banjo-Kazooie. would it be Double Fine doing Banjo-Kazooie? Have you heard of a team like Rare? I guess they are still okay. It’s nice to think what people think of us when they think of this game. It’s great that they associate bright platformers are with us, but we will come up with something completely new that people will like no less “, – added Shafer.

Psychonauts 2 will again focus on the telepathic psychonaut Rasputin Aquato (Time), who, 10 years after the events of the first part, will visit the headquarters of the organization (it will serve as a hub for traveling through other people’s brains) and realizes his importance within the company.

Psychonauts 2 is set to release in 2023 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, and PS4.
