Assetto Corsa Competizione on consoles – the worst way to get to know the simulator – review

Last week I got to the PS4 and Xbox One Assetto Corsa Competizione – One of the best car simulators of our time.

However, shortly before the release, it became known that on new consoles the novelty will work only at 30 frames per second, which has already raised big questions – such races require 60 FPS for easy control with fast input.

At the output, however, the situation turned out to be even more pitiable: yes, visually the simulator on all consoles looks decent, however, there are problems with performance.

To begin with, developers unblocked the frame rate on a standard PS4, so under better conditions the console can squeeze up to 40 frames per second, and in more complex scenes FPS drops to 30-35 frames.

On other consoles, the developers have provided a frequency limit of … 32 FPS, which is why when reaching this value on any of the platforms, frame-matting occurs – an unstable supply of frames. It seems to me that the game has a lower FPS, but this is not so.

This problem did not bypass the version for the base PS4, but due to the disabled restriction, the situation is a little better there.

In general, if the developers set a normal limit of 30 FPS, there may be no problems with the supply of personnel. So far it remains only to guess what the simulator command with the versions for consoles will do.

The main problem with this performance is the “twitchy” picture: it creates a feeling of a torn image, while the controls are inconvenient due to input delays.
