Argentinian bought Google for $ 4 and broke it

The other day, on April 21, an unprecedented event took place in Argentina: the local version of the search engine stopped working throughout the country. Google… And about the causes of the incident told the culprit himself: an unremarkable resident of the country named Nicholas Curona.

According to him, he went to the domain trading site Nic.ar and noticed that the local Google branch did not manage to renew the expired google.com.ar domain. Nicholas immediately bought it for about $ 4. In his actions, he does not see any violation of the law.

This is what Kurona saw on the store page: the domain is free, they offer to buy it

Thanks to the prompt action of Google, access to the Argentinean page of the search engine was restored a few minutes after the publication of Kurona’s tweet. How exactly they managed to come to an agreement is not reported.

Soon after the incident, the analysis team Open Data Córdoba noted that the domain registration period of the Argentine branch of Google should have expired only in July. So it is likely that what happened was the result of Nic.ar’s mistake. However, no comments have been received from Google and Nic.ar.

This is what the people of Argentina saw on Google for a few hours.
