Platform Twitch found herself at the center of a new scandal that could have a major impact on the streamer community. The fact is that people began to receive complaints from copyright holders for using music in broadcasts.
Before that, there was a system in which the controversial piece of the stream was muffled, and many gamers simply turned off the music in the game, which avoided problems. If the matter nevertheless came to the removal of the clip, then a strike came to the person.
However, this precarious status quo has been violated. According to the Twitch administration, she received a huge number of complaints from copyright holders on videos published in 2017-2019. Therefore, the platform’s rules have been updated, according to which streamers can no longer use copyrighted music.
The system is the same as on YouTube: strikes will fly for violations. Three strikes – and a person can say goodbye to his channel, that’s just that the number of claims does not reset over time. According to preliminary data, a large number of streamers, including large ones, have already received strikes.
The solution does massive damage to content on Twitch. The actions of the administration mean that without additional sources of income and audience there are karaoke and phonogram lovers, parodists, cover creators (the YouTube concessions for content producers on Twitch do not work), various DJs, streamers, recording reactions to others’ videos, as well as Broadcasts in the style of radio stations.
In addition, excesses on the part of copyright holders and the administration of the platform are not excluded. So, some streamers broadcast events, accompanying them with simultaneous translation. Now, such content may be in jeopardy if it uses music (and it will be used).
The strangest prohibition concerns the “visual representation of music.” It is about demonstrating video texts, notes and tablatures for singing and copyrighted music.
As written in Facebook agency founder Streampub Arthur Avakyan, hit streamers NymN, Jakenbakelive, Macaiyla, Fuslie, 39daph, Mikaylah, Katieohlee, Thehaleybaby, Youneh, Leclumsyfox, Omagicz, Atira, Chloelock and Donnahh.
“If many had previously hoped that Twitch itself would twist the sound to 0 for any copyrighted content, now it has become clear that this is not a panacea. In the CIS, everyone immediately understood this, since Twitch does not track locales with their rights, but partners abroad were in a relaxed state, “the expert explained.
