Team Mojang Studios provided a snapshot 21w06a for Java version Minecraft, which actually introduces a new cave generation system into the popular sandbox – part of a major update Caves & cliffs (“Caves and RocksThe full launch of the update is scheduled for 2023.
The developers call the new types of caves “Spaghetti” and “Cheese”. The former, as a rule, are long and sinuous, tapering and expanding in different places, which may resemble Italian tagliatelle pasta.
The latter, in turn, are reminiscent of Swiss cheese, as their structure can be traced “holes” formed by blocks of different sizes.
As part of the latest snapshot, the new cave system works with the old world generation algorithms, which means that the Minecraft landscape will become even more diverse in the future. Caverns generate up to -64 blocks.

The developers also said that now many dungeons will have their own bodies of water, not tied to sea level. Thanks to this, some caves can literally drown in water or delight the eye with interesting underground lakes.
