A game of a completely new plan: Resident Evil father Shinji Mikami spoke about the development of Ghostwire: Tokyo

Series author Resident evil, the legendary Japanese game designer Shinji Mikami for the first time since 2019 spoke about the project Ghostwire: Tokyo, on which he works as a producer in his own studio Tango gameworks.

In a recent interview IGN the developer said that the creator of the idea underlying Ghostwire: Tokyo was the creative director Ikumi Nakamura, after which a development team was formed.

“Initially, the team consisted of five people, with this composition we worked on the game for six months,” says Mikami. “Then the team expanded to 10 people, and so we worked for several more years, and only then full-scale production was launched.”

Based on the words of Shinji Mikami, the creation of Ghostwire: Tokyo began during the development of The Evil Within. A group of specialists was simultaneously working on a new title, and for Ikumi Nakamura, he was supposed to be his debut as a leader.

It was she who presented the game at the Bethesda conference as part of E3 2019, after which she became a real Internet star. However, a few months after that, Nakamura quit Tango Gameworks.. Mikami continues to work on Ghostwire: Tokyo.

The father of the Resident Evil series calls the new creation of his studio “a game of a completely new plan”. So much time has passed since the start of the creation of Ghostwire: Tokyo, that today this development can be considered the longest in the career of Mikami.

“Work on this game was probably the longest in my career.”

The game was supposed to be shown at the E3 exhibition this year, which will not happen due to the cancellation of the exhibition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
