A free version of the Battle Pass and a new event – what do Dota 2 fans expect from Battle Pass 2023?

Free version of Battle Pass

In many games, two versions of the Battle Pass are available to users – free and for money. The first assumes that players can unlock certain items from the Battle Pass for free – winning matches and gaining experience. Previously, Valve released only paid versions of the compendium and combat pass, but then in its other game – Dota Underlords – the company added both options. Yes, in Dota 2, each Battle Pass is confined to The International: with it, developers collect the prize pool of the tournament, but the free version of the combat pass will not affect it in any way. After all, if players like the content, they will probably be willing to pay extra for it. A free pass will be a good demo for those who doubt Valve or are simply not ready to spend money now – in the context of the coronavirus pandemic this is especially true.

New event or a selection of old

Many players liked the Dashing Pool event, which appeared in the Battle Pass for The International 2017. In 2018, the Desolation Caves event was released with a combat pass, which also received recognition from the players. However, last year’s event greatly disappointed everyone. The developers called it “Mo’rokai Fury” and added two monsters that accompanied each team to the regular game map. They had to be pumped with the help of essences that fell out of chests, creeps and enemies. Valve already used a similar model during the celebration of the Chinese New Year, and therefore the players considered the developers to be idlers.

Over the course of the year, reddit created various topics with the request to add an event comparable in quality to the “Dashing Pool” in the new Battle Pass. One of the users even suggested collecting all the past in-game events in the upcoming pass – Diretide, Dark Moon, Frostivus and others. These events can alternate every week. The idea sounds really cool, and such a selection would surely please those who have been waiting for the return of Diretide for many years.

New Rylai war wheel mechanics

As one of the rewards in the Battle Pass, players are regularly invited to spin the Crystal Maiden wheel, in which rewards of various rarities can be obtained, including the lasso for one of the characters. Of course, more often players get sets for five rubles or treasuries. It is especially annoying in such cases to those players who have reached a high pass level – and have received a whole warehouse of useless items. To remedy the situation, fans suggested making a separate wheel for those who received a high level of Battle Pass, or at least increase their chance of a lasso.

Less useless rewards like balls and drums

In the Battle Pass 2019, various seasonal items were given as awards – a heavenly snake, drums, monkeys and a shovel, with which you could dig up battle points, treasures or even rare Baby Roshan couriers. If the shovel could still somehow please the players, then the remaining items were ordinary cosmetics and therefore were quickly forgotten. Such rewards would fit well with the free version of Battle Pass – and in paid, players would like to see something new.

New Arcana and Person

Every year, the developers of Dota 2 try to surprise players with new sets for heroes. Last year’s combat pass included the lasso at Earthshaker, an exclusive set for Ax, a prestigious item for Tiny, and a person for Invoker. It really attracts players. For example, when on May 24 one of the developers of Valve wrote on Twitter that soon everyone will see the months of their work, they immediately attacked him with requests to submit a new lasso. To this, a Valve employee replied: “Which one? 🙂 ”And this means that the company has prepared for us several new items at once.

Do not forget about the personas – not only Invoker is getting such attention from the developers. Players are waiting for the little Crystal Maiden, one of the Spirit brothers and so on. Naturally, everyone wants to see an alternative for their beloved hero, but which one of them was chosen by the developers is one of the pleasant mysteries of the future pass.

Replacement Testing Trainers

In 2019, one of the innovations in the Battle Pass was the test of the coach. For him, players earned battle points if they successfully led the team to victory and received praise from the wards. The task was not an easy one – in most matches, players simply drowned out the coach or missed part of his assessment. Perhaps in the new Battle Pass, developers will redo the rating system or replace the task with something new and more interesting.

Match Victory Rewards

In 2015, using the Charm of the Crucible Jewel for three correct predictions of victory in All Pick matches, users could get a treasury. If the players twice incorrectly predicted the outcome of the match, their mascot split into Charm Fragment, which could be used for further processing into a new mascot and battle pass points. For several years now, fans have been asking for this mechanic to be returned, and in the upcoming Battle Pass it would definitely fall into place.
