Online at the beginning of this week appeared official horror footage “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City“from the first glimpse of the characters in the film, and the reaction from fans was mixed.
In an interview with IGN, the director of the tape Johannes Roberts tried to explain the choice of actors for the role of cult heroes…
“The difference between this movie and the previous ones is that it is an ensemble where each of the main characters has a huge impact on the story. They are not just cosplayers with carefully chosen hair and costumes. Throughout the casting process, it was extremely important to find people that could convey the spirit and energy of the characters. It seems to me that one of the main drawbacks of game adaptations often lies precisely in the casting. Visually similar actors are selected for roles, they make them the same hairstyles and clothes, but do not try to give the viewer what what movies do more than games, is to create a multi-faceted character that you can connect with and believe in. “
According to Roberts, the casting of Leon S. Kennedy was especially difficult due to the need to find the right balance between humor and fatigue, but the actor Avan Jogia was able to convince the director with his acting.
Other details:
- The Resident Evil 2 remake had a big impact on the tone of the film – it is dark and gloomy, it rains constantly, the city is shrouded in fog. All filming took place entirely at night.
- The director was inspired by the films “The Exorcist”, “Don’t Look Now” and “The Shining”, and in its structure the picture will resemble “Attack on the 13th Precinct”.
- Robertson wanted Raccoon City not to feel modern, but to have a touch of dilapidation and resemble the city from “Deer Hunter” – a kind of ghost town, forgotten by the rest of the world.
- The filmmakers worked closely with Capcom and received from the developers accurate drawings of Spencer’s mansion and the Raccoon City police station to accurately recreate the locations in the film, right down to the paintings on the walls.
- Lisa Trevor plays one of the key roles in the film. The director wanted to use her in the plot from the very beginning, since none of the past Resident Evil adaptations paid attention to this character.
“I wanted her to be a multi-faceted character, not just some creepy monster. She is frightening, but at the same time her fate is tragic. In the film, we strongly associate her with the story of Claire Redfield, starting with the orphanage in which Claire grew up.” …
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will be released on November 24 in the US and December 2nd in Russia.
