The coronavirus epidemic has greatly impacted the electronics market, which is still struggling to recover from component shortages. Despite the fact that the new image output standard was officially announced in 2019, its support is only being heard only now, when manufacturers of monitors and video cards begin to produce goods with HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.0 connectors.
Recently it became known that AMD is ready to provide graphics solutions based on the RDNA3 architecture, and today’s leak revealed their characteristics. DisplayPort 2.0 is mentioned in the latest graphics driver patch for Linux.
Recall that the latter has a data transfer rate increased to 80 Gb / s, which is almost three times higher than that of the current DisplayPort 1.4a.
The new standard is capable of outputting 10K images in an uncompressed stream at 60 Hz or two images in 4K at 144 Hz. With Video Stream Compression (DSC), DisplayPort 2.0 can handle higher resolution monitors.
The first displays with native support for this format should hit the market before the end of the year. RDNA 3-based DisplayPort 2.0 graphics cards will debut in Q3 2023.
