Residents of the United States may allegedly face a shortage of powerful gaming computers due to the “green restrictions” introduced in a number of states. This is the conclusion of some social media users, journalists and bloggers based on information from the company’s website. Dell (brand Alienware).
Earlier it became known that Dell decided not to supply a number of ready-made PCs to the states of California, Washington and Oregon (the so-called West Coast Coalition), as well as to Vermont and Hawaii. The reason was the new energy efficiency standards, which have been in effect since 2018, but have been tightened since July 1, 2023.
On the basis of a rather complex formula, officials and companies will determine how much electricity a particular technique consumes. Even the work in the “sleep” mode and the Internet connection are taken into account.
The restrictions will affect mobile gaming systems and ready-made assemblies of powerful PCs, which include gaming. From December 2023, the regulations will apply to high refresh rate displays and laptops.
As the tech blogger explained Jason Langevin (JayzTwoCents) the new regulations could hurt the supply of compact personal computers and gaming stations. Special attention is paid to such an indicator as memory bandwidth. However, independent assemblies of a PC from individual components and a console remain outside the regulation.
With the above requirements, state governments are trying to force companies to switch to more energy efficient power supplies and implement energy efficient operating profiles. By the blow turned out Corsair, Alienware and other players in the market that specialize in the sale of ready-made assemblies of computers.
You can solve the problem by choosing a slightly different version of the PC in the constructor or by assembling it yourself from the components purchased separately.
