Microsoft announced that the two technologies Dolby became temporary Xbox ecosystem exclusives for two years.
Atmos for Spatial Sound is now available on Xbox Series and Xbox One, and owners of the new Xbox headset can enjoy setup for free until September 30th. Improved HDR in the form of Vision is set to arrive on the Xbox Series by the end of 2023.
It is unlikely that Sony could seriously be interested in Dolby Atmos due to its own Tempest audio chip in the PlayStation 5, but with Vision HDR the situation may be different. Interestingly, anyway, Microsoft has decided to do a similar deal with Dolby.
