To the editorial board of the portal GameMAG.ru monitor came VX3217-2KC-mhd from ViewSonic with a 31.5-inch screen, QHD resolution and a maximum refresh rate of 75 Hz. We spent several weeks with him and are now ready to share our impressions.
Packaging, appearance and connectors
The monitor is packed in a rather large box, which can be easily carried alone thanks to the convenient plastic handle in the middle. It is not particularly beautiful: on one side there are three New Zealand kiwi birds (company logo) with the slogan “See the difference”, and on the other there are the main technical characteristics. It is hardly possible to understand what is hidden in it. For example, a courier was sure that he had delivered a TV set to me.
Inside, under the foam, you will find the display itself, a disassembled leg from two parts, a screwdriver and bolts for its installation, a network cable, an HDMI cable and instructions in different languages, including Russian.
The monitor looks impressive for its price point. It has a curved screen of 16: 9 format with a radius of curvature of 1800 mm, dressed in a plastic case with a glossy panel on the bottom. The working area takes up about 92% of the entire screen. The entire leg is made of silver painted metal. Alas, adjusting the height and other parameters for the user will not work. The distance of the screen to the surface with the stand is approximately 89 mm. This miracle weighs only 6 kg without a leg, and with it – 6.7 kg.
The bezels of the monitor are standard – they are 2 mm wide on the sides and top, if we take into account only the plastic, and about 9 mm, taking into account the black frames of the display itself. Bottom is traditionally the largest (silver) panel with a width of 22 mm, in the center of which the ViewSonic logo flaunts, and under it on the right side there is a control panel. The thickness of the screen at the edges, taking into account the protrusion at the back of the monitor, is no more than 15 mm. However, in the middle – at the place where the leg is attached – it increases to 45 mm.
The rear of the monitor houses built-in stereo speakers and downward-facing connectors. The set, however, is rather poor: in addition to the input for the power supply, you can find two HDMI 1.4, one DisplayPort 1.2, Mini DisplayPort and 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Specifications and customization
The Viewsonic VX3217-2KC-MHD is a 31.5-inch LCD monitor that uses a VA matrix with a 75 Hz refresh rate and QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). It supports SuperClear technology for true-to-life color reproduction and FlickerFree technology that reduces flicker. Its brightness is 250 cd / m2. This model supports about 75% of the NTSC color space. Static contrast is 1200: 1 and dynamic contrast is 80,000,000: 1. According to the manufacturer, the viewing angles are 178 by 178 degrees.
There are six buttons on the control panel, one of which (far right) is needed to turn the monitor on or off, and the other five to navigate through the settings. However, it is not very convenient to use it, since the purpose of each button changes depending on the menu in which you are.
For gamers, there is a separate button (far left) with which you can select ready-made presets for games – both general and for specific genres: several for shooters, one for strategies and one for MOBA. True, not that it was comfortable to play with them – the eyes get tired quickly. And during normal work, it is better to switch to standard mode, since the picture is badly damaged.
There are only six tabs in the main menu. In the first, you can select the active connector – HDMI, DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort. In the second, you can adjust the volume of the built-in speakers and turn on muting, and in the third, find presets for watching movies, surfing the Internet, reading texts and other standard modes. The third is for image calibration: brightness, contrast, color temperature and color range. The fifth tab has settings for sharpness and aspect ratio. And in the sixth, you can customize the menu itself – language, auto power off, and so on.
Tests and games
We were able to test the monitor on PC – in Forza Horizon 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Fortnite. In all games, he showed himself from the best side, demonstrating a smooth and beautiful picture.
Surely on PS4 Pro, the image would be fuzzy, since the system would not allow setting a value higher than Full HD, as in the cases of testing other QHD monitors. At the same time, there was no such problem with the Xbox One X before, so this option seems to be the best for pairing a monitor with a console.
This model has good viewing angles: if you get up and step aside, the colors will only become a little paler, there is no particular discomfort. We also did not find any pronounced glare during use. While watching movies or playing games, they are completely invisible.
Let’s remind that the declared performance of the monitor is 75 Hz. However, it gives out such a refresh rate only when connected via DisplayPort, which is not included in the package – you will have to buy it. With HDMI, it remains to be content with the standard 60 hertz. At the same time, the difference between 60 and 75 hertz is very noticeable.
Outcome
The Viewsonic VX3217-2KC-MHD is a good gaming monitor that will suit those who have long wanted to move from the old Full HD at 60 Hz to something more modern. I would like, of course, a larger hertzovka, but as compensation this model offers a 31.5-inch diagonal and a curved display – such a combination in the mid-price category is not often seen. Working with him is no less pleasant than playing. He has no significant drawbacks, except that the lack of the ability to adjust his height for himself is frustrating. If you sit low, you will have to constantly look up in order, for example, to move from one tab in the browser to another, which makes your eyes tired.
