“Gargoyles” started in 1994, and stayed on the air for three seasons, although other people worked on the last of them. The plot told of ancient gargoyles, which, due to betrayal, had been petrified for a thousand years, waking up in New York in the 1990s.
The project was one of the few examples of the period when the authors decided to use the format of a long developmental plot, and not rely on each individual episode, as was the case with many others.
According to Weissman, once Michael Eisnerwho at that time was the head Disney, I was looking for a franchise to turn it into a whole multimedia universe. At one time, he planned to acquire comic book rights. Marvelhowever, he (ironically) was dissuaded from this idea.
Then he turned to Weissman with a proposal to turn his creation into a kind of movie universe. The team of authors of the animated series in response began to develop various spin-offs, to build episodes in the plot that could launch new stories and so on.
But due to the change of power in the studio and the departure of many of its important employees who supported the animated series, nothing came of it. Later, Weissman himself was actually suspended from work on his brainchild just in the third season, which many fans dislike.
Weissman added that thanks to the release of the animated series on Disney + his popularity jumped up again, attracting new viewers. He hopes that such an interest will not pass by the studio, and it will give him the opportunity to work on his beloved universe again.
According to Vaysman, the chronology of the world is spelled out so much that in print form it occupies 315 pages. At the same time, he is ready to work on new stories in any format, but first of all I would like to finish the plot of the animated series, ignoring the events of the ill-fated third season.
