In early April, closed beta testing of the Valotrant shooter from Riot Games began. The novelty receives mainly enthusiastic reviews from players and journalists: praise interesting shooting, unusual abilities and good optimization.
All the Cybersport.ru editorial staff who managed to try out Valorant liked it a lot too. But this is not a perfect game: it has flaws, some of which can ruin the impression of the process. We decided to tell you what we did not like about Valorant.

I like the gameplay in Valorant – with the exception of one small but very annoying nuance: the ability to shoot on the run. I admit that when using SMG, this mechanic has the right to life (although if it were my will, I would make everyone stand still when they pull the trigger), but in Valorant you can control the spray relatively effectively even with Phantom – one of two assault rifles. Fortunately, they are not using it so often yet.
Another drawback is the small number of cards and the inability to select them. At first, my colleagues and I had a great losstrike on Split, which every team threw at our match, and recently the game decided to launch me exclusively on Bind. I have nothing against any of them – level designers really did a good job. But it’s hard not to get tired of the monotony, when the system sometimes issues a series of five identical cards.

When I first saw the videos on Valorant, the terrible graphics of the heroes’ abilities immediately caught my eye. I continue to believe that at least for the official release it will be improved. For example, the Phoenix fire wall – what did they paint in Paint? The same goes for the Viper venom wall, which also eats up its eyes with its color.
In addition to the awful graphics of skills, many of them are almost useless and boring – especially against the background of the recently added character Raze. Yes, Riot claimed that abilities would be an auxiliary part of the shooter, but most of them, in fact, are useless and only distract from the shootings, and some allow you to destroy your opponent at a time. I like to shoot in shooters, and not to block the passage with a wall, to revive a dead ally or die from an enemy rocket.
Many players, including me, are annoyed that at the beginning of each round, 30 seconds are given for the purchase. Why so many? At the same time, you can buy weapons not only at your base, but also anywhere on the map. Yes, during this time you can make all ten purchases.

Valorant is often blamed for the visual style, because of which it most likely resembles a mobile game. Someone is dissatisfied with the shooting, which does not differ in realism, or the complexity of control of recoil. In my opinion, this is all a matter of taste and habit, and the shooter suffers much more from the desire to be a clone of CS: GO and at the same time be different from it in details.
The motives of the developers are clear: in games there will be more highlights, and direct copying in the future will allow you to drag part of the competitor’s audience. But some gamers already consider CS: GO obsolete, and here from the new only sights on the AK-47 and M4A1-S.
Another controversial decision is to replace the standard free time with “walls” at the beginning of the round and design cards with a bunch of transitions between points. Both that and another as if created to encourage the most aggressive actions on both sides. Perhaps the release will be different, but so far this only adds more chaos to the colorful hell without voice chat.

The main problem for a player from Russia will be the lack of voice chat. If in CS: GO this is not so critical, in Valorant half of the agent’s abilities are needed for instant interaction with the teammate.
Another question is whether high-ranking players from other countries will appreciate such a move by developers. I am sure that many users from Russia will catch an armful of reports for having spent the entire match in silence. The game at the first ranks can turn into “get around the corner and try to shoot the opponent”, and you can forget about any tactical component.

Valorant doesn’t have replantings, as in CS: GO: only some characters can climb into high boxes or other ledges due to their abilities. And this introduces an imbalance in the game. For example, Sage on the Split map can create an ice wall underneath and calmly shoot the passage to point A. Because of this, clutter forms – when you go to the plant, you don’t understand where you can be shot from, because, besides the usual points, somewhere an ice wall and Sage can flaunt at the top.
In terms of mechanics, Valorant is a compilation of CS: GO and Overwatch, while graphics are straight from Paladins. Valorant does not yet have its own distinct features that would highlight the game and create its unique style. Because of this, for a wide audience, she risks remaining just a mixture of CS: GO and Overwatch, and not a full-fledged original shooter from Riot.
Valorant has an analogue of Deagle from CS: GO – Sheriff, a pistol that will give odds to any rifles. A shot from him in the head (even with full armor) at a distance of up to 30 meters is one hundred percent killing. For all its firepower, Sheriff is also quite easy to handle. If shooting from Deagle requires training and is designed specifically for the guy, then in Valorant after a couple of days of beta testing, almost everyone without exception runs around with a gun and shoot right in the head. Getting out of Sheriff on the move or even in a jump was not so difficult, which made the weapon extremely annoying and unbalanced.

The main disadvantage of Valorant is its general slowness. This includes both excessive purchase time and the speed of movement of the characters. A couple of days after the start of the beta test, I noticed that the player facing the corner will always have an advantage over who goes to him. This is all because heroes move very slowly.
I can’t agree with my colleagues about the graphics and design of the cards, since both components work on the original idea of the authors – to create an e-sports shooter so that each character can be seen even from afar. However, I would like the gameplay to become more dynamic.
