Company Valve spoke about the eighth experimental function of the Laboratory Steam – news center. In it, users can view content related to updates, announcements and events from the games they play and that interest them.
The developers named five reasons why events and announcements may appear in the feed of a user:
- The game is in his library;
- The game is on his wish list;
- He subscribed to the game page in the store;
- The game is recommended to him based on what he plays;
- This is news from the Steam blog (for everyone) or the Steamworks blog (for Steamworks developers).
However, you can refuse any of these categories, hide some types of events, or ignore certain games. You can also find out about upcoming events by email or from notifications on your smartphone. The news center is compatible with mobile devices.
In the coming weeks, the developers plan to add more settings to the news center, additional news sources and a new main page where you can immediately see all the most relevant events.
