Developers from Larian studios talked to western reporters after yesterday’s presentation of the gameplay of Baldur’s Gate 3, commenting, in particular, the likelihood of a game appearing on consoles.
At the moment, the authors can not confirm that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on consoles. And that the consoles of the current generation will be able to fully pull the upcoming role-playing game, Larian Studios sure even less.
“I don’t think that the current generation consoles will be able to pull the game. We have significantly updated our engine and implemented many improvements, so I don’t know if all of this could work on these systems,” said the executive producer of the project David walgrave in an interview with the publication Eurogamer.
According to the technical specialist, perhaps the game could be made to work on Playstation 4 and Xbox one, “simplifying textures and the like.”
“But then Baldur’s Gate 3 would not have looked so cool anymore.”
In another interview, edition GizmodoWalgrave praised Google Stadia, noting that porting games to it is very easy, and this is one of the reasons Larian Studios decided to release Baldur’s Gate 3 right away, not only on a PC, but also on a cloud platform.
Google, in turn, supported the developers. Representatives of Larian Studios do not go into details, but say that the existing agreements between the two companies have helped make the game more ambitious.
In addition to the technical part of Stadia, Larian Studios was very interested in the upcoming social functions of the platform, which Google spoke about at a presentation last year. For example, the ability to instantly launch the game directly in the browser after watching the trailer on YouTube or the ability to join the game session of your favorite streamer right during its broadcast. In addition, developers will be able to implement other features related to streaming to increase audience engagement. If we talk about Baldur’s Gate 3, then Larian Studios plans a function that will allow viewers of official streams to influence the mechanics of throwing bones in the game.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will debut on PC with an early access program in the next few months. Deadlines for a full release are not yet called.
