Taiwanese cosplayer Lai Pin-Yu, a former activist of the Sunflower protest movement, won the election race for head of the 12th constituency of New Taipei. This publication reports Taiwan News. The 27-year-old girl beat her opponent, former deputy mayor of Taipei, Lee Yong-Ping, receiving 84.393 votes against 81.613 for Lee.
Pin-Yu announced the election victory through her page on Facebookby writing the following: “Hello friends, I am Lai Pin-Yu, Head of the 12th District of New Taipei. Please leave me your complaints and suggestions here for the next four years.” The girl attached a photo to the message, in which she is depicted in the image of Sailor Mars from the manga and anime “Sailor Moon”.
Lai Pin-Yu graduated from the Law Department of Taipei National University in 2013. In college, she participated in many student movements. During one of the rallies, she was arrested for chained herself to other demonstrators in an attempt to block the movement.
Today, Pin-Yu is a member of the Democratic Progressive Party. As part of the election campaign, she appeared in front of citizens in the costumes of her favorite anime heroes. In particular, in the image of Asuka from the Evangelion.
Pin-Yu plans to continue to do cosplay in his spare time.
