Chinese company GPD gained fame for its compact gaming laptops. Most of the systems ran on Intel and launched applications Windows, however, the manufacturer will soon change the established tradition.
Through the official Discord channel, the company announced the release of the GPD-XP, a handheld Android game console. The system will receive a certain ARM processor, which, according to rumors, will be the MediaTek Helio G95, as well as 6 GB of RAM and 128 internal UFS 2.1 memory.
They promise support for microSD cards and 4G networks. The latter will be needed to access the Internet, calls and SMS sending will be disabled. Plus, the console doesn’t have a built-in microphone.
The GPD-XP has a 6.81-inch display with a custom aspect ratio and console-style controls: on the left are an analog stick and D-Pad, as well as physical buttons for home, back, and so on; on the right is the main control unit.
The modular design with a magnetic fastening system allows you to replace the right block with an alternative one. For example, fans of games in the MOBA genre can use the vertical row of keys, or the touchpad.
The battery with a capacity of 7000 mAh will allow the system not to turn off for up to 12 hours. The Chinese GPD-XP runs a custom Android build. GPD will enter the international market with Android 11 and Google services.
The price and release date of the device are still unknown.
