Formerly founder of Gearbox Randy Pitchford stated that the company was working on a license in order to include the 2001 build in a new add-on for Duke Nukem Forever. Unfortunately, since March 2018, not a word has been heard about this.

Duke Nukem Forever has been in development for fourteen years and was released June 10, 2011 on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. At the time of release, the game was crushed by users and critics.
