Microsoft announced today the official price for the memory expansion card for consoles Xbox series x and S…
The accessory will cost $ 219.99 or 19,279 rubles in Russia for a model from Seagate with memory 1 TB… So far, this is the only version available.
On its blog, Microsoft also spoke in more detail about the capabilities of the proprietary SSD card and the compatibility of the new consoles with other external drives.:
- Xbox Series X and S support any external SSD / HDD with USB 3.1 connection. They are suitable for storing next-generation games optimized for the Xbox Velocity architecture, but they will only run on Xbox One projects, including backward compatible games for the Xbox 360 and the original Xbox;
- Games installed on an external Xbox One drive will be instantly available when connected to the Xbox Series X / S without reinstalling;
- The Seagate Expansion Card is fully comparable to the Xbox Series X / S internal storage, which has a claimed 2.4 GB / s bandwidth, 40 times faster than the Xbox One HDD;
- Backward compatible games can be installed on regular HDDs, but an internal SSD or Seagate expansion card will provide significantly faster load times;
- Seagate became Micrsoft’s first choice of external expansion cards for the Xbox Series X / S, but in the future users will have a choice of other manufacturers;
- Seagate Expansion Card is compatible with Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and does not require additional configuration when switching from one console to another;
- The Quick Resume function works with all types of storage, including HDD, as all the data required for this is stored on the internal SSD.
Director of Program Management Department Xbox Jason Ronald separately explained why the external SSD-card was priced exactly at this value:
“The Xbox Velocity architecture is a key innovation in our next generation consoles, delivering unprecedented speed and performance, enabling gaming experiences never before possible. This level of consistent performance requires advanced components that cost more than traditional hard drives or Commonly found solid state drives in PCs. In partnership with industry leader Seagate, we have developed an expandable storage solution that will provide identical performance at the lowest possible cost and will be available at console launch. “
