Valve’s new patent describes a Steam Controller with removable sticks – review

Patent discovered on the net Valve, which indicates a possible future version of the controller. It is reported that the novelty will receive replaceable elements, in particular, instead of an analog stick, you can put a D-pad. This will expand the management capabilities and adapt it to a specific game.

In general, it will be possible to change all the basic elements: sticks, crosses, trackpads and buttons. Note that in December last December, Valve updated the firmware Steam controller. It is possible that this is due to a new patent.

The application itself was registered on September 13, 2019, and it was published on March 26, 2023.

Of course, the presence of a patent does not say anything about the timing of the release and the very possibility of such products appearing on the market. However, it is possible that the company is still considering the option of returning Steam Controller to the market.
