“The story of the revolution couldn’t be different”: Ubisoft reveals why Far Cry 6 will become a deeply political game

The plot of the upcoming shooter Far cry 6 from a French publisher Ubisoft will be deeply political – the developers are preparing not just a dynamic action game, but also a meaningful narration, which will reflect a lot of ideas, conflicts and crises that are relevant to our world. The corresponding statement in the official blog was made by the creative director of the project. Navid Hawari

According to Hawaridespite the fact that the setting for Far cry 6 served as a fictional Caribbean island Yaraobviously inspired by Cuba, the plot of the game will in one way or another affect a whole layer of quite tangible political discussions. And to the implementation of the plan, the team Ubisoft tried to approach as responsibly as possible.

“Our storyline is political. The story of the modern revolution simply cannot be different. Far Cry 6 asks complex, pressing questions about the conditions for the rise of national fascism, the cost of imperialism, forced labor, the importance of fair and fair elections, the rights of the LGBTQ + community and much more. for all this is the fictional island of Yara, located in the Caribbean. My goal was to ensure that the team worked with the necessary fearlessness and confidence when writing the script. And for the last five years we have worked tirelessly. We have also approached the things that we used in as an inspiration, including, of course, Cuba, not forgetting that there are other countries in the world, in the history of which there have been political revolutions.

Having chosen the course of development, we invited authors and assistants to the team, one way or another personally involved in the history and culture of the regions we inspired. In addition, we were supported by experts and consultants – during the production they analyzed the project several times in order to make sure that the narrative was nuanced enough. It is not for me to judge how good we did the job, but I can say with confidence that we tried very hard, “explained Navid Hawari.

Hawari also added that Far cry 6 will preserve the unique identity inherent in the franchise – players will find not only a serious tone, but also bright and funny scenes that dilute it. However, the writer asked the audience to look at the shooter’s narrative without preconceived notions, allowing the game to speak for itself.

“Players are waiting for a story, where they are destined to the role of observer of the complex structure of the modern revolution in a fictional artistic context. We tried to combine action, adventure and living soul in the project, without hesitation to ask difficult questions. Far Cry is a brand whose DNA is imprinted with complex ideas. neighboring with a certain ease and humor. One cannot exist without the other, and we made an effort not to lose this balance. The only thing I can hope for is that the plot will be able to reveal itself before the moment, as about its political comments will form complete and formed opinions, “concluded Navid Hawari.
