The Last of Us: Part II has nothing to do with it: Metacritic commented on the new restriction on user ratings

Over the past year, review aggregator Metacritic has become a real battlefield – the gaming community is actively using the site in an attempt to underestimate or, on the contrary, overestimate the user score of a particular game. In the case of releases such as Death stranding and The Last of Us: Part II this turned into a real war for ratings, where thousands of site visitors tried to prove their case by all means, scattering zeros and tens in the available range of digital values.

Amid all this, the platform recently adopted a new policy – now custom ratings for games can only be set 36 hours after their premiere… According to the administration, the resource took this step in order to make the selection of reviews more fair, in other words, to give the audience a chance to get at least a little preliminary familiarization with the projects to be rated.

However, representatives Metacritic categorically deny that the decision on the new system is somehow directly related to the review bombing The Last of Us: Part II

Keep in mind that more than one person is facing malicious underreporting. Metacritic… For example, various releases in a digital service often suffer from such manipulations. Steamwhen the evaluation of games can suddenly collapse for one reason or another, which, as often happens, has nothing to do directly with the project itself.
