The five most emotional scenes from The Last of Us Part II – why we fell in love with Ally’s new adventure

The Last of Us Part II, unlike many modern games, does not give the user the freedom of choice and is actually a rail action. On the one hand, this, of course, prevents us from identifying ourselves with the character, but on the other hand, it gives the scriptwriter great creative freedom. In The Last of Us Part II, the developers managed to make a lot of bright and dramatic scenes, in this article I will talk about the best of them.

Note: below you will find the spoilers of the plot of The Last of Us Part II. We recommend that you read the material only if you are not going to complete the game.

Ellie in space

As a child, Ellie wanted to become an astronaut, but even without an apocalypse this task would be difficult to accomplish, and in current realities it became completely impossible. Still, the girl secretly continued to dream about the stars even during the events of Part II, and I am sure that this childishly naive idea was preserved in her soul even after all the horrors experienced only thanks to Joel.

On her next birthday, Ellie made her an unusual gift: he took her on an excursion to an abandoned museum of natural history. And there the girl – for the first time in many years – was able to feel like a simple child. She examined the skeletons of dinosaurs and stuffed animals, made funny grimaces in the mirror and molested Joel with silly questions about the structure of the world.

The culmination of the campaign happened, of course, in the space hall. There, Ellie was able to examine models of various rockets, discuss the flight of Yuri Gagarin, and at the end – try on a real helmet from a spacesuit and sit at the helm. At this moment, Joel handed her an audio cassette – it turned out that she was the real gift. Putting on her headphones, Ellie heard the countdown: “Three … two … one,” and after him – the sound of a rocket taking off. It turned out that Joel somehow got the record of the Apollo 11 mission – today we can all listen to it on YouTube, but it would be almost impossible to find it in a post-apocalypse.

Closing her eyes, Elli really did briefly find herself in space – she felt overload during take-off, trembling from the work of engines and the amazing feeling of weightlessness, which she read about in childhood. Returning “to the ground”, Ellie somehow managed not to cry – but the player during this scene can hardly hold back a tear.

Ellie is losing her temper

Ellie’s fury is directed at a specific opponent – Abby, since it was she who dealt the last blow to Joel. However, along with her on that ill-fated day, a whole detachment of WOLF operatives was in the room, and all of them are also on the heroine’s black list.

Ellie will meet one of the members of that team, Nora, in the hospital, and the moment of reprisal against her will become one of the strongest in the game. After a long chase, the girls will fall into the basement, infected with spores, and at that moment Nora, who has inhaled the virus and thus lost the chance to survive, will understand that Ellie is the very child who was supposed to save humanity by giving him an antidote.

Nora will try to play on these memories – reminds Ellie that Joel has deprived her of meaning, but by then it will be too late, because the protagonist will be swept by a wave of rage. In Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, there was an amazing scene in which Solid Snake walked along the corridor among the fallen soldiers and suddenly became a “Demon” with a bloodshot face.
