Scandalous Taiwanese horror Devotion can be bought digitally again

Developers from a Taiwanese studio Red Candle Games launched own digital store where you can buy scandalous horror Devotion… The game sells for $ 17 and is distributed without anti-piracy protection.

In the Red Candle Games store, you can also buy the studio’s previous game – horror Detention… Future studio projects will also appear in the new store.

As a reminder, Devotion was released in February 2019. After the release, the game found insults to the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, as well as comparing him with Winnie the Pooh. Because of this, Chinese players began to lower Devotion’s rating in Steam

The developers tried to fix the situation. They apologized and released patches that removed the offensive material from the game, but it was too late. Soon Devotion was removed from the Chinese Steam, and later the authors themselves stopped selling it in the rest of the world.

As a result of the scandal with Red Candle Games, contracts between Indievent and Winking Entertainment were terminated. Indievent lost its business license altogether.
Last December, Red Candle Games attempted to release Devotion in GOGbut in CD Projekt have changed their mind about releasing horror in their store after “a lot of messages from gamers.”
