Samsung talked about the possibility of blocking stolen TVs. The company used the feature following massive looting in South Africa during a wave of protests last month.
Samsung notes that the technology is “already preinstalled on all of the company’s TVs” and “ensures that the product can only be used by its rightful owner with a valid receipt.”
Blocking TVs occurs by serial number. When the device connects to the Internet, a check is performed on Samsung servers. If the TV is not found in the database, then the company turns off all its functions.
Samsung states that if accidentally locked, customers can return the TV to working condition by sending a request to [email protected] and confirming the purchase.
