The number of female characters has grown in roles that are not the main ones. Last year, 37% of them went to women. But at the same time, the number of female roles fell by one percent with the words: only 34% of the heroines allowed at least one replica to be pronounced.
In “talking” roles, fewer black women were filmed (20% – one percent less than in 2018) and Asian women (7% – 3% less). But Latinos received 5% of the roles with replicas – this is 1% more than last year.
In general, in the film industry of 2019 in 43% of films the main character was a man, and in another 17% mixed roles played the leading roles. For 46% of female characters, the plot reported their marital status, while for male characters it was known only in 34% of cases.
But the situation was the opposite. 73% of male heroes had a certain profession, and 59% were shown at work. For women, these figures are 61% and 43%.
