Resident Evil and Devil May Cry developers are really under attack: Capcom executives reacted to data breach

Japanese publishing house Capcom shared the first official statement regarding what happened global internal data leak – the company really became a victim of a hacker attack, which entailed theft of a significant amount of information

Representatives Capcom confirmed that the attackers could have both the personal data of the employees and certain information about the company’s customers. The incident has not yet had a direct impact on all production processes of the publishing house – everything continues to function as usual. Nonetheless, Capcom offers a sincere apology to all parties that may have been harmed in the attack, including employees, shareholders, partners, as well as ordinary players.

It is noteworthy that among the stolen files there is indeed data on the financial transactions of the publisher, however personal payment details of customers are safe – a third-party company is responsible for them, which was not affected at all as part of the hacker attack

As countermeasures, specialists Capcom notified all competent authorities of the incident, including the police and a separate organization that will investigate the leak. The result of this initiative will be announced later.

At the same time, the publishing house specialists are engaged in the reconstruction of the database of their servers, as well as the implementation of new security solutions under the guidance of professional network security organizations.

According to current analysis of the situation, a hacker attack should not have a significant impact on performance Capcom in the current financial year. In case of any unplanned complications, investors will be notified separately.
