Remaster Command & Conquer appeared due to negativity around mobile C&C: Rivals – review

On the channel noclip a 40-minute rush about the history of the remaster was released Command & Conquer, which includes Tiberium Dawn and Red Alert.

In addition to the details of the production of the reprint, the producer EA Jim Wessella spoke about the birth of a modern collection from the founders of the franchise from the studio Petroglyph.

When the publishers began to analyze the situation, it quickly became clear that fans of the franchise wanted to see the return of their favorite series “home” – on the PC. Soon, the company began brainstorming ideas to satisfy the players.

Among the ideas was a remaster. Then the EA leaders asked Wessella how he would approach the creation of the project, to which they would get a direct answer – he would trust him with Petroglyph studio, in which the fathers of C&C founded.

Then they told me: “Well, why don’t you contact them?” I was surprised to ask if I should go through different instances like the business development department and the legal department. EA is still a big company, we can’t call all the studios in a row. The answer was short – just contact them.

Wessella even worked on Command & Conquer 3 and subsequent games of the series, was not personally acquainted with any of the original Westwood, therefore, wrote a touching letter to Petroglyph, inquiring about their interest in reprinting.

I worked on the series all these years, I knew all their names and heard stories, but I never worked with them. I wrote a letter, spoke about my past and love for the series, and also shared plans to make a remaster.

To which they said: “This is music for our ears. Let’s talk”.

The reissue of Command & Conquer has been in production for almost two years. The release took place on Steam and Origin a month ago, and judging by open data, the premiere was successful. Perhaps EA will take on the further development of the series.

The last new C&C was released in 2010 – it was Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight. After EA tried to make a new C&C: Generalsbut after a couple of production restarts the idea was abandoned.
