Raven vs. Bibi Rashida: Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 Review

Polish studio CI Games continues to develop its line of sniper simulators. After Georgia and rebellious Siberia, the developers swung at the long-term conflict in Syria, making the shrewd Bibi Rashida the main villain of the new game. A well-educated and secular woman at the head of a Muslim republic and an anagram on behalf of Bashir al-Assad, together with a recognizable environment, make it possible to draw unambiguous parallels. However, the plot has never been a strong point of creativity. CI Games, which has always relied on a sniper simulator.

As in the previous part, in Sniper ghost warrior contracts 2 again offer to play as a super soldier Raven in a technological suit. He must sabotage the country and eliminate key elements supporting the Rashid regime. The game is divided into five large zones and one training stage, which will have to be completed even if you are familiar with the controls.

There are not many innovations in the world of Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2. In addition to the appearance of a normal rangefinder in binoculars, the authors added a remotely controlled combat turret to the arsenal, increased the distance for a sniper shot to 1400 meters and prohibited the use of standard cartridges from knocking down helmets from armored soldiers. Now, under normal conditions, reinforced fighters with machine guns have to undermine, luring them to barrels or throwing C4s. However, you can always take armor-piercing cartridges, which destroy them with one headshot.

With this approach, the main logic of the game breaks, since it is realistic to complete all missions using only armor-piercing cartridges and replenishing ammunition from the corpses of killed opponents.

Although the game promises long range kills, this is not the case with all maps. The first task is linear, without a sandbox, and then the developers give a little freedom, but most of the tasks are simply led by the hand. Somewhere in terms of architecture, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 is too similar to the first part. You have to lure targets or eliminate dozens of enemies before you get to the target, but the emphasis is on sniper shooting – all other mechanics, unlike the situation with the prequel, are considered secondary.

In addition to the already mentioned reinforced soldiers, the hero is opposed by numerous turrets that can be disabled by electromagnetic cartridges, radio interference systems, as well as impregnable armored cars moving along certain routes. The authors try to combine stealth and action, forcing players to open new sections of already well-studied stages, pumping water or descending into the communications system.

With the simplification of the gameplay, the save system has also been changed. When leaving the mission, you can continue it from the last save. If you left the mission, then starting it over does not have to destroy the already completed objectives. In addition, the game is automatically saved when the enemy is not in danger or search mode. On the one hand, this makes it easier to complete tasks, and on the other, you can be saved before an unsuccessful event, and then only a complete restart of the entire stage will save you. However, death used to mean the loss of all progress to the point of evacuation.
