PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan: We need the best games, not just “normal” or “good enough”

Brand name Playstation exclusively interested in the highest quality games – Sony does not want to make any compromises when it comes to creating new high-quality projects. About this in an interview with a Chinese publication. TMPOST the president told Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan

According to the current philosophy of PlayStation, the brand should gather around itself, first of all, a library of the best, outstanding and high-profile releases.… Sony is not chasing “normal” and “good enough” games – more is expected from in-house studios.

“Better to wait a bit and get a great game than rush the developers and settle for a normal, satisfying product.

Only the best games are imprinted in the memory of the players, just good works are remembered less often. If the game is great, the audience will want to see the sequel, want to support it financially. With games of the “OK” level, this does not happen.

Of course, based on financial considerations and overall portfolio, we sometimes put some pressure on internal studios, requiring them to meet a certain time frame.

But more often than not, we are not interested in good games – we only want the best, “explained Jim Ryan.

Developing his position further, Jim Ryan added that in his understanding the recipe for “the best game” is absolute creative freedom for developers, which can positively affect the quality and evoke a “strong emotional response” from the final audience.

“It seems to me that the strongest impressions of the game are given when players can immerse themselves in them, feel like a part of these worlds, experience a variety of emotions,” added Jim Ryan.

“We give developers the creative freedom and expect the best possible return for that.”

Formerly Jim Ryan answered a question about the main competitors of the PlayStation and named his favorite game of the last year
