Neil Druckmann named the reason for the club scene in The Last of Us: Part II – review addiction

Development manager and screenwriter The Last of Us: Part II Neil Druckmann in an interview The Washington Post shared a personal story that explains why the golf club appeared in one of the key scenes of the game.

Spoiler alert!

At the beginning of The Last of Us: Part II, one of the main characters named Abby kills the protagonist of the first part, Joel, with a golf club.

According to Druckmann, the decision to kill Joel with a golf club was made later in the script writing process. Abby was originally supposed to paralyze Joel by stabbing him in the back.

The knife is more Ellie style. We wanted something different.

Druckmann said he was hit over the head with a golf club when he was 16. As a result, he had to put 30 stitches, and there is still a dent on the skull.

My friend was fond of golf. He invited me to the training field. I stood behind him and got hit on the swing. There was blood everywhere.
