Naughty Dog may have been doing battle royale for The Last of Us 2, according to files found in the game

In files The Last of Us: Part II hidden multiplayer assets have been discovered that may provide clues to the plans Naughty dog with regards to the upcoming independent network project for the franchise.

Recall that in September 2019, the studio openly abandoned multiplayer in The Last of Us 2, focusing on the story campaign, but hinted that in the future, players will receive a separate online game. Subsequently, the development of the online project was repeatedly reported by insiders and there was direct evidence in the vacancies of Naughty Dog.

Now the dataminer Speclizer claims to have found leftovers from various multiplayer assets in The Last of Us 2, most notably the map plan, which was apparently intended for multiplayer games.

Apparently, the map was supposed to combine several areas from the story campaign into one large location, perhaps for the battle royale mode… You can see Adler Park, Kamallito Port, gas station and Adler Plaza Hotel.

The battle royale is also hinted at by the compass and player counter typically found in battle royals.… Other items and items found include a wheel of emotions, hearing mode devices, a pocket TV, multiplayer backpack and armor models, and a collar. The latter may indicate that tameable dogs may have appeared in multiplayer.

At the moment, it is not known exactly how relevant all the finds are.
