MWC 2023 canceled due to the threat of the spread of coronavirus

Organizers MWC canceled the upcoming event in Barcelona. This happened for the first time in the 33-year history of the exhibition. As stated by John Hoffman, CEO GSMAThe reasons were an outbreak of coronavirus, concerns about the safety of participants and guests, as well as a number of other aspects.
Earlier it was reported that a number of companies refused to send their employees to the event. It seems that this was the last straw, although until the last GSMA tried to hold a conference and secure people.
Among the methods of protection, it was proposed to use body temperature scanners, change microphones at the speakers, and it was recommended not to shake hands and restrict entry for those who had recently arrived from China. The event was to be held from February 24 to 27.
It is unclear whether the transfer of the MWC 2023 is planned or completely abandoned this year. It is also unclear who will compensate the participants and how. After all, the largest market players spend tens of millions of dollars to show their new products at the exhibition. In particular, the announcement of new video cards and smartphones with 5G was planned there.
Note that the government of Catalonia contacted the organizers of the conference and stated that it did not see the need to cancel the event. In fairness, this is not the first cancellation this year. Because of the coronavirus, many e-sports and gaming events, movie premieres, as well as Formula 1 and the Singapore air show were postponed.
