Microsoft bought itself in trouble: RPG publisher Rune II sues ZeniMax Media in multimillion dollar lawsuit

Late last year around the role play Rune II an unexpected scandal… As soon as the production of the project came to the finish line, its developers from the studio Human head were actually disbanded and went to work in full force Bethesda Softworks, where a separate division was created in advance for new specialists.

The spice of what happened was added by the fact that for Rune II long-term post-release support was originally planned, which Human head was supposed to provide the project after launch. However, after a painful breakup, the departed authors “Runes“not only refused to fulfill their contractual obligations, but also protested against providing the publisher Ragnarok development source code, as well as related materials and assets, so that the company can find a new team to further develop the game.

It all ended up with Ragnarok sued Human head as the only remaining resolution of the situation. And now the publishing house has expanded its statement of claim, calling to account not only the former partners in the person Human headbut also the command Bethesda Softworks and her parent company ZeniMax Media

According to the assurances of lawyers Ragrnarok, the publishing house is convinced that the management ZeniMax actually carried out a raider seizure of the team Human head, luring him to himself, along the way sabotaging production Rune IIas well as a game based on the comic Oblivion Song, also then in development… In the case of the latter, claims Ragrnarok, the actions of competitors completely destroyed the project – its creation canceled

“With this lawsuit, we hope to be compensated for the fraud and sabotage of two game titles, Rune II and Oblivion Song, which were thwarted by one of the most notorious conglomerates in the industry, who felt threatened by their business empire.

The hotly anticipated release of Rune II has been sagged by a conspiracy orchestrated by money-hungry developers and a large gaming conglomerate reluctant to see competitors in their franchises. Oblivion Song suffered in a similar way, and development was in complete chaos, “Ragnarok’s lawyers said in a statement.

Representatives Ragrnarok convinced that shortly before launch Rune II top Human head provided ZeniMax Media keys to the pre-release version of the project, after which the company saw in the game a potential danger to the role-playing series The elder scrolls

Allegedly shortly thereafter ZeniMax registered a new legal entity, from the position of which it acquired all the property Human headincluding work computers containing source code Rune II and Oblivion Songas well as their assets. The company later hired all Human Head employees, systematically completing the merger with the development studio.

In case of victory in court Ragrnarok hopes to receive from ZeniMax Media compensation in the amount of $ 100 million

Now Ragrnarok found new contractors to complete Rune II and her continued support. An updated version of the game, called RUNE II: Decapitation Edition, will go on sale on November 13th.
