“Let’s act decisively”: Bobby Kotick made a statement about the situation at Blizzard, but employees are unhappy

The head of the company Activision Blizzard Bobby Cat promised investors to act decisively in the event of improper workplace situations and to put things in order at Blizzard, which is now under a flurry of criticism.

At the meeting on the occasion of the quarterly report, Kotik listed measures already now aimed at normalizing production processes and the principles that management is committed to adhere to.

1. We asked Jennifer Oneal and Mike Ibarra to take over responsibility for operational reporting and future development of Blizzard (they will replace Jay Allen Brack, who left Blizzard President yesterday.).

2. We are committed to continuing to actively investigate any complaints we receive. If we receive information about problems, we immediately look for ways to solve them. In order to further increase the productivity of work in this direction, the company will be strengthened with additional personnel and resources.

3. We will remove from work any manager and supervisor if he directly obstructs internal investigations of incoming complaints and appropriate responses.

4. We will devote more resources to ensure that we can recruit a wide variety of staff for a wide variety of roles (support for women and minorities).

5. We have received feedback from employees and users that some of the content in our games is done in bad taste. Such moments will be analyzed and, in the order of the norm, adjusted (we are talking about elements that may be offensive to part of the audience).

It is worth noting that Kotik’s statement did not satisfy the employees. According to IGN, representatives from all divisions of Activision Blizzard formed a coalition ABK Workers Alliance and wrote a letter with a long list of leadership requirements.

The coalition, in particular, is unhappy that Bobby Kotick chose a law firm. WilmerHale as an external auditor to carefully study the situation and make recommendations for normalizing the situation at Activision Blizzard. They write that the firm is known for longstanding ties to the management of the publishing house, as well as various controversial cases to protect the “rich and powerful.”

In addition, workers are demanding a clear commitment to inclusiveness when hiring employees, and the need for greater transparency in pay.

Meanwhile, one of Activision Blizzard’s investors has already filed a lawsuit against the company. Blizzard’s head of HR resigned.
