“It’s not helping the industry grow, there’s room for everyone in the marketplace”: Xbox CEO Phil Spencer vs. Console Wars

Head of the gaming division of the corporation Microsoft Phil Spencer sees no positive prospects in endless console wars. He is convinced that there is room in the market for a wide variety of companies and devices that serve a wider audience of users.

The corresponding statement was made by the top manager as part of a conversation with the resource GamesRadar +

“It’s not necessary for our own success that other companies stop growing. I want the industry to keep growing. If you buy yourself a Switch and I buy my kids a PlayStation, what’s wrong with them being able to play Minecraft together?” If this does not happen, this is a reflection of the fact that gaming is not evolving. Console wars can contribute to the success of one system over another, but they do not help the global industry. Instead of wars, I think it is worth focusing on the pleasure of the players, the ease and accessibility of games. I believe that this is the direction in which the industry will move, because it is in these things that the users themselves are interested, “explained Phil Spencer.

Spencer also believes that the expansion of the audience for console games has long been hampered by the high cost of consoles and the games themselves. The key to solving the problem may be subscription services like Xbox Game Pass, which will work on smartphones and smart TVs. Microsoft is actively investing in the development of this area. Its goal is to reach billions of gamers in the long term.

We will remind that earlier Phil Spencer also spoke about a special way of developing the Xbox brand and potential availability of Game Pass on Sony and Nintendo consoles
