Introduced Rate Tracing Technology Suitable for PC and Smartphones – review

Israeli company Adshir introduced its software Localray, which is said to allow the launch of ray-tracing games on smartphones and tablets. At the same time, only a couple of watts of power is enough for work.

The company has more than one and a half hundred patents on this subject, and the technology has been developing over the past seven years. During this time, a team from Tel Aviv figured out how to make ray tracing work on a wide range of devices, including smartphones and PCs. Moreover, the range of energy consumption extends from 2 to 200 watts.

The most interesting thing is that LocalRay is a cross-platform solution that runs on different operating systems and processor architectures. IOS is an exception, but support will come soon.

Demo new items shown at the exhibition CES 2023 in Las Vegas. As test devices, a PC, laptop, tablet and smartphone were used, and computers were equipped only with integrated graphics.

Of course, to run games with ray tracing, you have to adapt them by adding LocalRay support to them. The company has not yet specified when they will start selling the new product, which games and hardware devices will receive the technology first. Also unknown prices. However, the very fact that such a technology appeared could turn the gaming market upside down.

At the same time, the developers said that the company is considering the possibility of ensuring compatibility of LocalRay with Opengl.
