Hideo Kojima: “We can lose our games, music, movies, and it’s scary”

Digitalization of media content has become significantly widespread over the past decade, but a large proportion of users continue to give preference to traditional physical media. One of them – Hideo Kojima

In my microblogging creator Metal gear solid and Death stranding recently boasted another new thing – a box set with the music of the German band Tangerine Dream. The developer noted that whenever he thinks that CDs will soon disappear, he buys several, and a little later he gave a more detailed comment on this topic.

Kojima suggested that in the end, the death of physical carriers will not be possible. Now more and more users are switching to digital, voluntarily depriving themselves of their property rights. Indeed, at any arbitrary moment, a situation may occur, whether it is related to a government initiative, a change in trends, a disaster or anything else, when you can lose access to your own purchased content without warning.

“We won’t have free access to our favorite movies, books and music. I could lose everything. That’s what I fear. It’s not about greed.”

Many fans agreed with Kojima in replies to his tweets. Some even stated that this was exactly the situation with P.T. – demo Silent Hillsreleased several years ago. After the game designer left Konami with a scandal, the company canceled the horror, and the demo of the game was permanently removed from the PlayStation Store. Because of this, users have been forced to store P.T. for years. on the hard drive of their consoles, otherwise there is a risk of losing it forever.
