Happy Birthday Max Payne: Remedy Entertainment Cult Game Turns 20

Exactly 20 years ago, on July 23, 2001, a shooter was released on PC Max payne… In December of the same year, the project appeared on Playstation 2 and original Xbox, and later moved to a portable console Game boy advance completely redesigned.

The brainchild of a small Finnish team Remedy Entertainment instantly gained cult status among gamers and made a splash in the genre thanks to the Bullet Time mechanics and slow mo effects that have become the hallmark of the franchise. They brought to every shootout with ordinary enemies a dose of cinematic and entertainment in the style of “Matrix”, which was then at the peak of its popularity.

In addition to the addictive gameplay, Max Payne stood out from other shooters with a very dark plot, presented through comic-style cutscenes, as well as the noir atmosphere of a snow-covered night in New York. The cherry on top was the comments about what was happening on behalf of Max Payne, which went into quotes.

In honor of the anniversary date, screenwriter Sam Lake, who served as the protagonist’s protagonist, prepared a special video together with voice actor James McCaffrey, in which he congratulated the fans and everyone involved in the development.

Not without fan service. So, the eminent developer again tried on the iconic image of Max Payne, while McCaffrey voiced lines of text on the topic of his birthday in a familiar voice.

In addition, Remedy Entertainment has shared the festive art on its Twitter page.

“We are honored that the game we created 20 years ago is still so popular today.” wrote developers.
