Ghost of Tsushima developers artificially increase download times

To developers Ghost of tushusha managed to make downloads so fast that in the end they had to be artificially increased.
Initially, after the hero’s death, useful hints arose for a split second, because of which it was simply impossible to read. As a result, the studio decided to stretch the loading time by making special transition animations.
According to the engine’s lead programmer Sucker punch Adriana Bentley, such fast downloads became possible due to an extraordinary way of optimization – this is largely why the game itself does not take up much space, only about 45 gigabytes.
All the necessary data is available for loading into memory with minimal requests to the hard disk. This accuracy is only possible on consoles. The studio as a whole has been working on the technical part of the project for a long time, especially in terms of streaming objects.
As a result, for example, after the death of the player in “Ghost of Tsushima”, not most of the data is “reloaded”, but only a few necessary elements. As a result, thanks to this selectivity, it turns out to reduce all downloads to a minimum.
However, Bentley was not satisfied with the technical execution to the end – he would like to try to speed up the downloads while quickly moving on the map, especially when the player switches to other biomes.
Ghost of Tsushima released today on the PS4. Critics disagreed about the game, but the average score on aggregators is 83-85 points.
