Final Fantasy XV father Hajime Tabata returns to the big game – two major projects are already in development

After unexpected departure from Square Enix in 2018 development manager Final Fantasy XV Hajime Tabata opened his own studio JP Games and started creating a mobile project The Pegasus Dream Tour dedicated to the Paralympic Games… Now he is returning to the “Major League” again.

In an interview with a Japanese publication Weekly Famitsu Tabata said that he has entered into a partnership agreement with a large company, under which he will develop and release two large console projects

  • The first one has recently passed the pre-production stage. According to Tabata, this is “an experimental RPG with fast gameplay – an evolution of Final Fantasy Type-0 ideas.” The game designer wants to abandon the elements that artificially tighten the passage, and release an action-packed adventure with a high level of replayability and multiplayer mode.
  • The development of the second project is just beginning. Everything is more serious here – we are waiting for a large RPG AAA-class. “I would call it an evolution of Final Fantasy XV. The idea is to release a massive game with free exploration of the world,” – explained the head of JP Games.

Tabata did not specify for which publisher and what platforms he is preparing these games, but the Japanese media suggest that it may be about Square enix… In fact, in Japan it is the only one developing JRPGs with AAA budgets – the rest belongs to the middle segment.

Interestingly, as an employee of Square Enix, Tabata expressed interest in continuing the Final Fantasy Type-0 series. In 2015, a teaser for Final Fantasy Type-1 appeared on the network, however, since then, the line has not been remembered.
