Exodus completely switch to raytracing – review

In an interview Digital foundry technical supervisor 4A games Oles Shishkovtsov said that the studio is completely switching to ray tracing, abandoning old-fashioned technologies and coding.

Metro: Exodus was one of the first games with full support for ray tracing, but Shishkovtsov notes that this is just a test of the pen – the first generation of technology, while in the future they will be able to show much more impressive work.

Ray tracing will play a key role in future studio games and the next iteration of 4A Engine, the company’s internal engine.

In a conversation about the next generation of consoles, by the way, Oles mysteriously said that he was primarily enthusiastic about those elements of systems that had not yet been publicly presented. Now we only know about the processor based on AMD Zen 2, high-speed SSD and support for ray tracing.
