Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney: Giving 30% of Sales to Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft Is Fair

The second day of the trial started in the USA between Epic Games and Apple, in which the developers of the battle royale Fortnite trying to get the iOS version of the game back to the store AppStore and lower fees for publishers by iPhone and iPad

Speaking in court, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said his company is giving away 30% of Fortnite’s virtual item revenue to key platform holders. Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft, and considers this level to be fair, since the creators of consoles in response are strongly supporting the authors of the battle royale.

In particular, they provide free ad space for Fortnite on digital platforms and promote the game on their booths in retail stores, show fragments from Fortnite in numerous commercials and banners with their systems, and also release themed bundles, which ultimately allows Epic Games to increase the audience of the game and make more money. Apple, in contrast, does nothing, Sweeney said, but wants the same 30% of revenue.

According to the head of Epic Games, Fortnite developers communicate with Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft every day about joint activities.

Sweeney also noted earlier that Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are spending billions of dollars to design specialized gaming equipment in order to make money primarily on software, and this is also one of the reasons why Epic Games is willing to pay the big three 30%.

Those present in the court write that all current consoles are presented in the hall as exhibits – to visually demonstrate their differences from mobile platforms. The judge asked Tim Sweeney to explain how the controllers connect to the Nintendo Switch, but Tim Sweeney explained that he doesn’t personally play on the Switch. “Well, now everyone will know,” the judge answered jokingly.
