EA will open its patents to developers to make games more accessible

Electronic Arts will open five of its patents to developers, designed to make games available to a wider audience, including players with visual, speech, hearing and cognitive impairments.

Among these patents is a signaling system already in use in Apex legends, inviting players to use quick commands to communicate. And the ping system, also used in battle royale, allows for the transmission of audible and visual commands and messages using customizable input methods, without using a headset and microphone.

At the same time, three out of five technologies that have already been introduced into frachises like Madden nfl and FIFAwill help players with vision problems. The Patent Toolkit defines and modifies colors, as well as their brightness and contrast, to improve the visibility of objects of similar brightness.

In addition, a separate patent is intended to help gamers with hearing impairments, that is, the technology alters or recreates the music, taking into account the characteristics and preferences of gamers.

EA also notes that it plans to continue to open access to developers to their technologies designed to increase the availability of games.

At the same time, the publisher expects that other companies will go in a similar direction, making technology available to the maximum number of users and improving the final gaming experience.
