Disney closes racist ride at Disneyland for #BlackLivesMatter

Earlier GameMAG.ru reported that activists #BlackLivesMatter demanded from Disney close one of the attractions presented in a number of amusement parks, including Tokyo and California Disneyland. And the studio succumbed to the pressure.

It’s about the ride “Singing mountain“which is based on the cartoon”Song of the South“, which was repeatedly criticized for the incorrect display of the life of black plantation workers in the southern states of the USA. The cartoon company itself tries by all means to forget that it did not stop her from earning on characters and thematic projects.

According to an official statement, the company took into account the petition, the authors of which proposed to remake “Singing Mountain” to an attraction inspired by the cartoon “Princess and the frog“(the main character is a black waitress Tiana from New Orleans, who eventually married the prince of Maldonia). However, the meaning of “Songs of the South” is overlooked: the player Uncle Remus actor James Baskett became the first African American artist to receive an Academy Award.

The timing of the restart of the attraction is not disclosed, but the decision will affect only sites in the United States. This is not the first time this has happened. As part of the update in 2017 from the attraction “Pirates of the Caribbean“removed scenes from the brides market and the pirate chasing a woman.
