Discord prepares AI-based noise reduction – review

In the desktop version of the client Discord a noise reduction function based on the Krisp.ai service will appear. Allegedly, the system will track and cut off noise like a slamming door, the sound of pressing buttons on a keyboard, and so on. Echo cancellation is also promised.

It is argued that this technology will increase the clarity of voice and allow interlocutors to hear each other better, which can be important when working remotely.

Technically, the Krisp platform uses artificial intelligence, but the software part will work locally on the user’s computer. That is, data will not be transferred to a third-party server for processing.

So far, the function is at the beta testing stage, therefore, malfunctions are not excluded, as well as the presence of background noise even when the feature is turned on. Note that activation is performed in any audio or video chat. And in the settings you can see additional parameters.

It is noted that the version for mobile devices is still under development, there is no information on the launch date.
