Digital Foundry compares DiRT 5 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S – surprising results

YouTube blog team Digital foundry compared versions of racing arcade DiRT 5 for Playstation 5, Xbox series x and Xbox series sby reviewing the performance and graphics mode on all consoles, as well as measuring the frame rate and resolution. The results are very interesting.

To begin with, experts noted that in SDR mode on PlayStation 5, the picture becomes darker and loses a little in shadow details when compared with the version for Xbox Series X. However, this is not observed in HDR mode.

In the priority mode on picture quality in DiRT 5, lighting and shadows are improved, the details of cars and surroundings are increased, road textures become more voluminous, vegetation density and drawing distance are increased.

In this mode, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the game runs in dynamic resolution – in the range from 1440p to 4K. Xbox Series S – 1080p to 1440p

At the same time on the PlayStation 5 the resolution is on average higher than on the Xbox Series X. Moreover, on the Sony console, things are also better with texture filtering.

The flagship console versions hold the 60FPS bar with occasional crashes. But on average on Xbox Series X drawdowns can be deeper – up to 5-8 frames.

Commenting directly Xbox Series S, experts emphasized that in most cases, the resolution in graphics mode here is at 1080p – this is a decent system for playing 1080p… But drawdowns are more frequent here, and the picture looks worse than on flagships.

In performance mode, DiRT 5 runs on PS5 and Xbox Series X at 120FPS and roughly between 1080p and 1440p. The bottom bar is 900p.

But on Xbox Series S resolutions can drop down to 570p.

As for the graphics, in this mode on the Xbox Series X the game looks much worse than on the PlayStation 5 (detail, geometry, vegetation, textures). Experts were unable to explain the difference logically, because we are talking about systems with approximately equal capacities.

For the most part, the frame rates in performance mode are almost the same between versions, but on the PlayStation 5, some tracks have dropped down to 90FPS.

Finally, in resolution mode, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions tend to be closer to native 4K and run mostly at 60FPS.
