At the beginning of the Frogwares week achieved the cessation of sales a “pirated” version of The Sinking City that Nacon was selling through a digital store Steam… According to the developers, the publishing house tried to deprive them of their income.
In response, the French company’s press office accused Frogwares of “sabotaging investments.” The publisher has collectively invested about 10 million euros in the development of the game, of which the Ukrainian studio received 8.9 million.
Frogwares says Nacon owes them around a million euros. In response, the French publishing house said that it paid off the developers in full.
The company also owns the rights to sell The Sinking City through Steam. The Paris Court of Appeal sided with Nacon, demanding that the game be resumed at the Valve store.
The Ukrainian studio in every possible way evaded the execution of the decision. There was also an attempt to resume sales on Steam of the version of the game, from which all references to Nacon were removed.
Therefore, the publisher decided to take action, referring to the contract, which spelled out the possibility of adaptation of the game by a third party. Apparently, we are talking about a Belgian studio Neopica… Moreover, the French company allegedly planned to transfer part of the proceeds from sales of the new version of The Sinking City to Frogwares.
“By urging the gaming community via Twitter not to buy the game on Steam, Frogwares is sabotaging our investment in the game again,” the statement said.
Nacon has warned that it is ready to sue Frogwares over “aggressive” comments on social networks. The press service also added that all legal disputes between the parties have so far been resolved in favor of the publishing house, not the studio.
